• I am interested in working as a poll worker. How do I apply? Contact Liz Johnson at 508-799-1134.
• What is the latest date I can sign up to be a poll worker? Although there is no deadline for applying, the Elections Office tries to fill positions as soon as possible before an election. It is possible to have vacancies as the elections approach so it is a good idea to apply regardless.
• Other than being a registered voter in Worcester, are there any other requirements that I need to have? No. There are no other requirements for you to become a poll worker.
• Do I have to go to a training session? Yes, wardens and clerks are required to attend a 2-hour training session. The training sessions are usually held in the city library. Inspectors and translators are not required to attend this session. (Workers will not get paid for the training session).
• Will I be assigned to a precinct closest to my residence or will I be assigned in a random precinct? The Election Office will try to place you closest to your own precincts. However, if there are vacancies in other precincts, you will be placed elsewhere.
• How long are the shifts? Are there part-time shifts available? The shift starts at 6:30AM until 8:00PM when the polls have closed, votes are counted and results finalized. All shifts are for the whole day.
• If I decide to become a poll worker, do I have to work at the primaries as well? No, poll workers are not required to work both at the September 19th primaries and the November 7th elections. However, they are encouraged to do so.
• Will I get paid? Yes. Wardens and clerks are paid $120 for the whole day. Inspectors are paid $90.
• Are translators needed? If so, what languages specifically? The Worcester Election Office is not hiring specifically for translators. They are however looking for poll workers who are bilingual in Spanish or Asian languages.
